Financial Assistance
Graduate Students
The vast majority of financial assistance at Clark is offered on the basis of financial need. We're committed to making a Clark education affordable to students admitted to the University, and we work with you and your family to thoroughly explore your options.

Graduate Financial Aid

Graduate students at Clark can apply for two categories of assistance: non need-based merit scholarships, grants and tuition waivers awarded by the department to which the student is applying, and student loans.

Information you supply on your admission application and supplemental information you provide decide all grants, tuition scholarships or waivers based on merit. Scholarships may vary, and include full tuition scholarships or waivers, half tuition scholarships and waivers, and other varying amounts.

Students receiving merit awards may also be eligible for additional need-based assistance in the form of student loans. The majority of graduate students are eligible for some type of student loan. Loans must be repaid, usually after graduation, so students should not borrow more than they need or are able to repay.

Timetable

Students applying for any type of Clark scholarship/tuition waiver should complete their application for admission by your academic department's deadline. You will receive notice of eligibility directly from that department.

Students may apply for student loans at any point before or during the academic year.. Since the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) takes four to six weeks to process, do not wait until classes begin to apply. We encourage you to apply by May 15th so that all of your financial resources are in place for the beginning of the academic year.  Once all required forms are received, you will be mailed an award letter notifying you of your eligibility for financial aid. Please note that if you wait until after the priority deadlines, it is unlikely that you will have a loan approved in time for the beginning of classes.

Eligibility

You must be accepted into a degree program and enrolled at least half-time to be eligible for aid. At Clark, half-time student status is at least 2 units per semester. Your eligibility for aid can change if your enrollment status changes.

Clark University does not offer financial assistance directly to international students.  International students may apply for a credit-based education loan.  However, a U.S. citizen is required to co-sign the loan.

Obtaining Forms and Assistance

Graduate students applying for merit scholarships, grants, or tuition waivers apply through their academic department. Scholarships are awarded based on your ADMISSION application and supplemental information requested by the department.

Graduate students interested in student loans are required to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You may complete this form online at the link or you can obtain a copy from any college financial aid office. You must also complete the Clark University Application for Financial Aid and submit signed copies of your 2007 federal tax return and W-2 forms.
