COUGARS VOLUNTEER AT BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB KIDS CAFÉ
Several Clark University student-athletes volunteered at the new Boys and Girls Club on Tainter Street last Tuesday evening.
Spending an hour and a half of their time at the Club’s Kids Café, the Cougars helped set-up, serve and clean for two groups of children ranging from pre-school to teenaged. The Clark group, who also ate dinner with the kids, had the opportunity to socialize during meal times.
“I really enjoyed talking to the kids,” said Brian Hersey ‘07, a goalkeeper on the men’s soccer squad. “Both of my groups were younger, but I broke the ice with a few jokes and we had a good time. I talked to them about school, sports, and even going to high school and college.”
“It’s never too early,” he added.
“It was fun,” said men’s lacrosse player Dave Schuberth ‘09. “It’s great that they provide a safe and healthy environment for the kids.”
Emily Tremaine ’07, cross-country runner and Community Outreach Co-Chair on Clark’s Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) spearheaded the event. She hopes to provide student-athlete volunteers for the Kids Café at least one day a week.

Senior Jess Lamothe and first-year Jillian Camilleri received WACBA women’s basketball honor roll and rookie honor roll recognition, respectively. A native of Westboro, Mass., Lamothe totaled 16 points, seven assists and three steals in Clark’s 2-0 week. Camilleri, a forward from Lancaster, Mass., poured in a combined 16 points and grabbed 14 boards in two wins last week.
Winners of five straight, Clark (10-10, 6-3 NEWMAC) will travel to Smith College on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. tilt.
Junior Godfrey Duncan and first-year Mark Alexander were named the WACBA men’s basketball honor roll and rookie honor roll recipient, respectively.
