CLARK LACROSSE OPENS LEAGUE PLAY AT BABSON COLLEGE
Riding its first 2-0 start since 2000, the Clark University men’s lacrosse team are looking to increase its win streak to three games with a trip to Babson College on Saturday. It’s the first Pilgrim League contest for both teams.
With the loss of top-returning scorer Shawn Roche to injury, the Cougars have won their first two games off the sticks of first-year players, Garrett McAdam (8-1-9) and J.C. Tsagarakis (4-1-5).
“We’ve had a lot of injuries to start the year,” said head coach Evan Davis. “Our freshmen have stepped up and have really helped us stay in the game.”
Not only have the Cougars battled injury and inexperience, but have also clashed with the weather over the past week. After missing a pair of games (Manhattanville & Becker) to Mother Nature, the squad is roaring to get back into live-game action.
“It takes a toll anytime momentum is interrupted,” said the fifth-year coach. “But, nothing will make a bigger statement than to come off a week indoors and have a strong showing against Babson.”
The Cougars will face a Babson team (2-2) that snapped a two-game losing skid with a 13-7 win at Shenandoah University (Va.) on Tuesday. First-year attack Luke Biggins (8-2-10) and junior Jason Wellemeyer (5-4-9) are the team’s top scorers.
Dropping a hard-fought 9-5 decision to the Beavers last spring, Clark hopes to capture a victory for the first time in eight tries. According to Coach Davis, the team has yet to play a game at full strength. However, the Cougars, who hope to have Roche back in the line-up, will give it their best shot.
“Our goal for every game this year is to make a statement,” said Davis. “This weekend’s game will be our first true test.”

MARCH MADNESS
The Clark University spring athletic teams have been shutout since returning from their respective spring break trips. Due to the March Nor’Easter that ripped through New England last Friday, the Cougar schedules are laced with cancellations, postponements and rescheduled game dates. Four teams have experienced a combined six schedule changes due to the weather, including a pair of baseball postponements, two lacrosse modifications, a softball reshuffle, and a men’s tennis delay. Eager to return to the playing fields, the Cougars stay tuned to the forecast for clear skies, sunny days and warmer temperatures. Until then, check the webpage for schedule updates.
