WARREN EARNS SECOND STRAIGHT NEWMAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONOR

Clark University’s Heather Warren was named the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) softball Player of the Week for the second consecutive week, it was announced on Monday.

A native of Upland, Cali., Warren batted an impressive .815 (22-for-27), including six homeruns, six doubles, 12 runs scored and 25 RBI for a 1.704 slugging percentage and .829 on-base percentage in Clark's 5-3 (3-3 NEWMAC) week. Not only did the junior infielder smack her 100th career-hit to become the 14th Cougar player to join the Century Hits Club early last week, but she also set a new mark for homeruns in a season (10) last Saturday. Warren was perfect at the plate in three games with a 5-for-5, three homerun, five RBI and five runs scored performance in a 13-5 win over Worcester State College, 4-for-4 with four RBI in the opener against Smith College, and 4-for-4 with four RBI in an 11-5 victory against Wheaton. She leads the conference in batting average (.510), homeruns (10), and RBI (51), and tops the squad in slugging percentage (.959), doubles (12) and stolen bases (3). Warren has amassed 112 career-hits.

Clark (15-13, 6-6 NEWMAC) will take on MIT in a conference doubleheader on Friday (3:30 p.m.) in Cambridge, Mass.

COUGAR COMMUNITY CLEAN UP

The Clark University student-athletes will be in action in more places than the playing fields this week. The Cougars will spruce up Maywood, Florence and Beaver Streets in a community clean-up effort on Wednesday. Organized by the Student Athlete Advisory Committee, all Clark students are encouraged to participate. “It’s an opportunity for the student body to join together for a great cause,” said Brian Hersey, a senior men’s soccer player. “Admitted students and their parents will be visiting the campus this weekend and we want Clark represented in the most positive light.”

NEWMAC WOMEN’S ROWING CHAMPIONSHIPS

It’s championship season again. The Clark University women’s rowing team will be the first spring team to compete in their respective New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship on Lake Quinsigamond this weekend. Competing against Smith College, Coast Guard Academy, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Mt. Holyoke College and Wellesley College, Clark hopes better weather will improve race times on Saturday. “The horrendous weather conditions contributed to a poor race last weekend,” said head coach Erick Thiemke. “I’m hopeful we can rebound at NEWMACs.”

“We should have a solid race from our varsity eight boat,” he added. “They have an opportunity to finish as high as third.”

Race times will be posted on the Clark Athletics page later this week.
