MURRAY FINDS HOME ON CLARK WOMEN’S SOCCER ROSTER

First-year forward Julie Murray has finally found a permanent home on the Clark University women’s soccer line-up.

A native of Millbury, Mass., Murray was an all-around player at Millbury Memorial Junior/Senior High School. “I moved around a lot in high school,” said the Woolies all-time career assist leader. “I played sweeper, forward and midfield, so coming back up front is pretty fun.”

A welcome addition to the Cougars forward rotation, Murray notched her first collegiate goal in a 1-1 double-overtime tie against regional power Keene State College last Wednesday. Trailing 1-0, she scored the equalizer off a corner kick in the 38th minute. “I wasn’t expecting to score off a ball like that,” she said. “I was looking for a header off of the corner, but it was deflected; it just so happened that I was right there. It was awesome.”

Murray has a knack for being at the right place at the right time. Recruiting the former three-time Telegram & Gazette All-Star was a no-brainer for head coach Joe Brady, who is also a product of Millbury.

“Julie is an exceptional athlete who gets better and better everyday,” said the seventh-year head coach. “She provides energy off the bench in every game and I’m looking forward to her having a fine four-year career at Clark.”

Making appearances in all 10 games this season, the excitement of Murray’s first college point has come and gone. However, as Clark sits at 4-4-2 (1-1 NEWMAC) with six critical conference contests remaining, we are certain it won’t be the last.
