Women's Tennis Drops Season Opener to Simmons, 8-1

BOSTON, MASS. 9/3/08 - The Clark University women's tennis team suffered its first loss of the season with an 8-1 non-conference defeat to Simmons College on Wednesday afternoon.

The Cougars fell to 0-1 overall.

Newcomer Julia Bergeron (Lewiston, Me.) earned Clark's lone point with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles. She and teammate Andrea Nathan (Saddle River, N.J.) fell just short of a doubles victory in the third slot 9-8 (7-5).

Clark will travel to Rhode Island College on Saturday (1 p.m.) for a non-conference match.
