Women's Tennis Edged by Nichols College, 5-4
WORCESTER, MASS. 9/10/08 - Clark University was edged by Nichols College, 5-4, in non-conference women's tennis action at Corash Tennis Courts on Wednesday afternoon. The Cougars fell to 0-2 in the loss, while Nichols remained undefeated (4-0).
Clark claimed a pair of wins in doubles play. Sophomore Rebecca Friedberg (Hummelstown, Pa.) and junior Phoebe Livingston (Jamestown, R.I.) posted an 8-4 victory at number one, while junior Andrea Nathan (Saddle River, N.J.) and first-year Julia Bergeron (Lewiston, Me.) teamed up to sweep (8-0) their opponents in the third slot.
The Cougars then posted just two wins in singles competition, where Bergeron picked up a 6-4, 6-4 victory at number four. It's her team-best second individual victory of the season. Livingston took a 6-1, retired decision at six.
Clark will travel to Babson College on Saturday (1 p.m.) for its conference season-opener.
