Women's Tennis Falls to Mount Holyoke College, 9-0
WORCESTER, MASS. 10/7/08 - The Clark University women's tennis team remain winless in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) with a 9-0 loss to Mount Holyoke College on Tuesday afternoon at Corash Tennis Courts. Clark falls to 3-7 overall and 0-5 in league play, while MHC improves to 4-3 (2-3 NEWMAC).
The Lyons opened by sweeping doubles play, as Ashley Fallon (Mansfield, Mass.) and Elise Marifian (Belleville, Ill.) topped Clarks Rebecca Friedberg (Hummelstown, Pa.) and Phoebe Livingston (Jamestown, R.I.), 8-2, in the No. 1 spot. Teammates Beatrix Hartmann (Redding, Conn.) and Sarah London (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) and Natalie Hsiang (Pittsford, N.Y.) and Heather Richardson (Holden, Mass.) both claimed 8-3 victories at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, respectively.
In singles play, junior Andrea Nathan (Saddle River, N.J.) held Mount Holyoke's Elizabeth Tighe (East Longmeadow, Mass.) to the closest match of the day, but fell 6-3, 7-6, (7-5) at No. 5.
Both teams are back in action on Saturday. Clark will host Wheaton College at 1 p.m., while Mount Holyoke will entertain Babson College at 1 p.m.
