Baseball Shutout by Salem State, 15-0

WORCESTER, MASS. 3/31/09 - Freshman Matt Kerr (East Freetown, Mass.) pitched a no-hitter through five innings and the Salem State College baseball team banged out 13 hits to secure a 15-0 shutout victory over Clark University in non-conference action on Tuesday.

With the win, the Vikings (7-9) gave 27th year head coach Ken Perrone his 600th career victory. Clark, which dropped its third straight game, fell to 8-13.

Kerr struck out eight batters and walked four to pick up his first victory of the season. He was supported by an offense led by freshman Chris Cocci's (Wakefield, R.I.) two hits and four RBI.

Salem State scored eight runs in the first four innings that included RBI hits from four different players in a six-run second. The Vikings added multiple runs in the fifth and eighth innings.

Senior Matt Tillo(Osterville, Mass.) got the only Clark hit of the game to prevent the no-hitter. He reached on an infield single in the bottom of the fifth.

Freshman Nick Winchell (Scituate, R.I.) scattered four hits, allowed six runs (five earned), and walked five in 1.2 innings of work

Clark will play at Wheaton College on Thursday (3:30 p.m.).
