Women's Tennis: Postseason Awards Roll In For Cougars

Worcester, Mass. - Following a season that saw the Clark women's tennis team emerge will several newcomers who will continue to move the program in a positive direction, three individuals earned academic all-conference honors while the team collected the 2009 NEWMAC Sportsmanship Award it was announced by the conference office on Wednesday.

Sophomores Jenni Adams (Denver, Colo.), Julia Bergeron (Lewiston, Maine) and junior Emily Schweitzer (Northampton, Mass.) were three of 22 student-athletes conference-wide to be selected as academic all-conference honorees in women's tennis.

Honorees must have met the following criteria to be eligible: earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5/4.0 scale or 4.35/5.0 scale after the 2009 spring semester, achieved second year academic status at her institution, and been a member of the varsity team for the entire season.

Clark becomes the third school to win the Sportsmanship Award in women's tennis in its four-year existence. Wellesley took the award in both 2006 and 2007, while MIT picked it up a season ago.

Internally, they become the third team to win the award following field hockey (2006, 2008) and mens basketball (2008).
