Women's Tennis Shutout by MIT, 9-0

WORCESTER, MASS. 10/06/07 - The Clark University women’s tennis team dropped its fifth straight match to MIT, 9-0, in NEWMAC action on Saturday. The Cougars dipped to 1-10 overall and 0-6 in the NEWMAC. Winners of three straight,the Engineers are now 6-1 and 3-0 in league play.

The Engineers did not surrender a point in a doubles play sweep. Senior Mariah Hoover (Orlando, Fla.) and sophomore Leslie Hansen (Fairfax, Va.) shutout Mika Sneddon and Freddie Palmer, 8-0, in the number one slot. Sophomore Anisa McCree (Acton, Mass.) and Liz Denys (Naperville, Ill.) prevailed over senior Kristen Domurad (Merrimack, N.H.) and sophomore Phoebe Livingston (Jamestown, R.I.), 8-0, at number two, while junior Karina Pikhart (Granada Hills, Cali.) and Melissa Diskin (Newport News, Va.) blanked Clark’s Ashley Faden (Hopkinton, Mass.) and first-year Willa Dunn (Croton, N.Y.), 8-0, in the third slot.

Palmer held the closest match of the day, falling to MIT’s Yi Wang (Woodinville, Wash.), 6-4, 6-0, in the number two singles position.

Clark will travel to Bay Path College for a non-conference match on Tuesday (3:30 p.m.). MIT will host Brandeis University that same day at 4 p.m.
