Department of Athletics
Philosophy Statement
As a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association, New England Women’s and
Men’s Athletic Conference, and the Pilgrim League, we are committed to providing quality
athletic opportunities for our student-athletes within an educational and respectful
environment that embodies the values inherent in the Division III philosophy.
The Department of Athletics and Recreation strives to provide an environment
that will complement and enrich the overall quality of students’ educational
experience as well as integrate members of the Clark Community (students, faculty,
staff, administration) through participation in a broad-based program that includes
intercollegiate varsity sports, intramurals, wellness, and recreational activities. Inherent in
our emphasis on participation, the department is committed to the fundamental values of
fair play and sportsmanship.
The athletic program’s purpose is to provide competitive experiences which contribute
to the positive growth and development of student-athletes. The department places
primary emphasis on the health, safety and well-being of our student-athletes as well
a commitment to their academic success. Further, we believe the overall quality of
experience is enhanced by fair and equitable treatment of men and women by providing
opportunities that encourage the pursuit of lifetime activities, a sense of commitment and
teamwork, and the development of personal character.
