Varsity Sports @ Clark
Clark students and faculty enjoy a spirited challenge on the field and court, as well as in the classroom. Athletics at Clark are aimed at meeting the full range of health and fitness needs of a diverse community. From topnotch varsity programs, to intramural teams, to general fitness and recreation opportunities, Clark has it all.

Clark University Department Athletic Award Descriptions

Scholar-Athlete Award
To recognize athletes who have earned a 3.5 GPA for the previous spring and/or fall semesters and/or have a 3.5 cumulative GPA. To be eligible, athletes must be competing for a team in the current academic year.

Senior Participation Award
To recognize senior/graduate athletes who competed in the same sport for four years

Richard Fairbanks Service Award
To recognize individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to the athletic program and may include managers, trainers, and others involved in the athletic program.

Senior Class Award
Presented to the senior athlete who best exemplifies class, spirit, and integrity in his or her athletic endeavors

CONSIDERATIONS INCLUDE: dedication, leadership, sportsmanship, support for other programs, enthusiasm.

Four-Year Participation
Athletes receive a Clark watch in recognition of their four years of varsity athletic participation.

Merit Award
To recognize those senior/graduate athletes who have had a significant impact on their sports. Primary consideration is athletic performance based.

NOTE: Those nominated (but not selected) for the Hebert/Hughes Trophies will automatically be considered for merit awards. The merit award cannot be awarded twice to the same person

Russ Granger and Alice Higgins Award
Presented to the male and female athletes who have combined academic excellence with athletic achievement - the quality of their education and performance in both disciplines exemplifies the term ‘scholar-athlete’.

INTENT: Exemplifies the best scholar and best athlete and is not necessarily the athlete with the highest grade-point average.

CONSIDERATIONS INCLUDE: recommended minimum 3.2 grade-point average, number of credits completed at Clark, single vs. double major, single vs. multiple sports, academic department honors.


NOTE: Athletes with a GPA below 3.0 are not eligible. Graduate students are not eligible.

Fred Hebert and M. Hazel Hughes Award
Presented to the senior/graduate male and female who have made a significant contribution to the intercollegiate athletic program and whose dedication and performance have enriched the tradition of Clark Athletics.

INTENT: To select those students whose excellence in contributions, commitment, and good values has impacted their own program as well as the entire athletic program.

CONSIDERATIONS INCLUDE: leadership, sportsmanship, single vs. double sports.

NOTE: This award cannot be awarded twice to the same person.
