Dear Colleagues,

I am writing to update you on NCAT's new webinar series.

In spring 2013, NCAT launched a new series of free webinars on course redesign. Each webinar has reached maximum registration well before it was offered. The purpose of my note is to tell you how to view past webinars on the NCAT website and to urge you to register for the remaining webinars in our spring 2014 series.

Spring 2014 Webinar Series 

Each hour-long webinar will feature an NCAT Redesign Scholar, the project leader of a highly successful course redesign, describing the redesign project with a particular focus on its distinguishing characteristics. After a presentation, the lead faculty member will be available to answer questions and provide additional specifics about the redesign. The following topics and speakers are planned: 

  • April 8, 2014 at 1 pm EDT: Redesigning General Psychology at the University of New Mexico presented by Gordon Hodge, featuring the use of mastery quizzing.
  • May 13, 2014 at 1 pm EDT: Redesigning College Algebra at the University of Central Florida presented by Tammy Muhs, featuring large-scale redesign in a course of 4,000+ students.

Four additional webinars are scheduled for fall 2014: another Getting Started on Course Redesign as well as discipline-based webinars in developmental math, Spanish and biology.

What the Best College Teachers Do
June 18-20, 2014

19th Annual International Summer Institute

New York City Area

We are pleased to announce the opening of registration for the 2014 Best Teachers Institute (June 18-20, 2014), A Three-day institute based on Ken Bain's award-winning and best selling book What the Best College Teachers Do (Harvard University Press, 2004), and featuring some of the subjects of the 15-year study of excellence in college education. Institute combines resources of Northwestern University, University of Virginia, Rhode Island School of Design, Assumption College, Vanderbilt University, and Best Teachers Institute. 

This year's program will also feature ideas from Ken Bain's new book What the Best College Students Do (Harvard University Press, 2012).  Both books won the Virginia and Warren Stone Prize for an Outstanding Book on Education and Society (2004 and 2012)

Enrollment Limited.  Early Registration Advised.  Program tends to fill early.  Recent years' programs included participants from six continents, two dozen countries, and 47 states, from large and small schools, open admission and highly selective institutions, universities and community colleges, undergraduate, professional, and graduate schools, creating a rich diversity of ideas and experiences.  Come join the conversation.
