Professor Lu received a B.A. from East China Normal University in 2006, an M.A. from East China Normal University in 2010, and an M. Phil. and Ph.D. in 2013 and 2016 from Syracuse University. He has been at Clark since 2016.

Current Research and Teaching

Professor Lu specializes in East Asian history and gender studies. His research focuses on the changing conceptualization of political masculinity and male beauty standards. He is currently working on a book manuscript titled "Appearance Politics and Building Political Legitimacy in Modern China," which explores the role that physical appearance has played in Chinese political culture. Professor Lu teaches classes on Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and global histories, and in the history of beauty and fashion.
