Opportunities for activism
The Feminist Majority
Foundation is a cutting edge organization dedicated to women's
equality, reproductive health, and non-violence. In all spheres, FMF
utilizes research and action to empower women economically, socially,
and politically. Our organization believes that feminists—both
women and men, girls and boys—are the majority, but this majority
must be empowered.
Feminist International Radio Endeavor FIRE
Internet Radio - FIRE is the first women´s Internet radio
and broadcasts live webcasts by, and about, women around global
issues. Tune in daily or check the archives for specific topics. FIRE
is simulcast in both Spanish and English.
GABNet works on
issues arising from US policy decisions which impact negatively on
women and children of the Philippines. GABNet has launched
educational campaigns on militarism and prostitution, labor export
and the sex trade, and the "mail-order bride" industry. They work
with GABRIELA Philippines, the country's largest and most militant
women's alliance.
Choices is
the largest campus network of pro-choice students and is part of the
Feminist Majority Leadership Alliance.
About-Face is a
media literacy organization focused on the impact mass media has on
the physical, mental and emotional well being of women and girls.
Through practical and activist methods we challenge our culture's
overemphasis on physical appearance. By encouraging critical thinking
about the media, and personal empowerment, About-Face works to
engender positive body esteem in girls and women of all ages, sizes,
races and backgrounds. About-Face provides a place where all women
count, from the tiniest among us to the very largest.
The National Organization
for Women has 500,000 contributing members and 550 chapters in
all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Since its founding in
1966, NOW's goal has been "to take action" to bring about equality
for all women. Both the actions NOW takes and its position on the
issues are often unorthodox, uncompromising and ahead of their
time.
For over thirty years, the National
Abortion Rights Action League has been the political arm of the
pro-choice movement and a strong advocate of reproductive freedom and
choice. NARAL's mission is to protect and preserve the right to
choose while promoting policies and programs that improve women's
health and make abortion less necessary. NARAL works to educate
Americans and officeholders about reproductive rights and health
issues and elect pro-choice candidates at all levels of
government.
Established in 1990, Women
of Color Resource Center is a non-profit education, community
action, and resource center working on social justice issues that
affect women of color. WCRC develops and distributes education and
information resources about women of color that support, sustain, and
advance social justice movements.
Even though President G. W. Bush's administration has closed down
this office, you may still obtain archived information from this
site. The President's
Interagency Council on Women is charged with coordinating the
implementation of the Platform for Action adopted at Beijing,
including the U.S. commitments announced there. It also develops
related initiatives to further women's progress and engages in
outreach and public education to support the successful
implementation of the Conference agreements.
