Bio: Fredo received his Ph.D. from the University of Vigo (Spain) in 2006 under the direction of Dr. Marisa Castro. He joined the Hibbett lab as a postdoctoral fellow in 2009.
Research Interests
Fredo has interests in the systematics and evolution of different groups of Basidiomycetes. The subject of his Ph.D was a classic taxonomic study of the Amanitaceae and Pluteaceae (Agaricales, Basidiomycota), including Amanita, Limacella, Torrendia, Pluteus and Volvariella. During his first year in the Hibbett lab he studied the phylogeny, taxonomy and biogeography of some of these genera.
He is currently involved in the study of the genus Trametes and related taxa in the "core Polyporoid clade" (Polyporales, Basidiomycota) as a part of the Polypeet project funded by the NSF and coordinated at the Hibbett Lab
