Bio: Andy received a Masters degree in fungal systematics from Dennis Desjardin at San Francisco State University in 2002, and joined our lab the same year.
Research interests: Andy's master's thesis involved monographic and phylogenetic studies of the genus Gymnopus from Indonesia and related white-spored agarics. He is considering a Ph.D. project focusing on the evolution and ecology of the genus Calostoma.
Awards: In July Andy received one of two awards for best graduate student posters at the 2006 meeting of the Mycological Society of America. He received another award in August for best graduate student poster in the category of Phylogeny, Systematics, and Evolution at the Eighth International Mycological Congress, Cairns, Australia.
