People connected with The Larochelle Lab

Dan Courtney, undergraduate '09

Bio: Going into the fall 2009 semester, I’ll be a Junior. My major right now is Molecular Biology, but I’ve been considering integrating the arts into my studies as of late.

Awards: I once won my school spelling bee and received a massive dictionary for my efforts. This stands out in my mind as the single most important day of my life.

Research Interests: As far as current research interests, I’m helping with a gene knockout in the Larochelle lab. As for the future, though I’m not sure how feasible it is, I’ve always been interested in perhaps studying the effects of the different members of the tryptamine family on the human mind, exactly how they work, and of the altered states of consciousness induced therein.

More about me: I enjoy drawing, writing, animating, and gaming. I am currently working on the script and art for a webcomic called “Consciousness Altered”. Since I’ve gotten to college, my music tastes have been wildly altered to a nearly unrecognizable point (which is a good thing). I love hanging out with my friends and going to shows as often as I can. As a wise person once told me, “Love life”.
