Our aim in providing the photographic guide is to make available information about the floristic riches of the District of Sexi and aid those interested in the plants of the region. The photographs were taken as part of a study of the flora of the area which we hope will add to knowledge of the botany and ecology of the mountain forests of the Western slopes of the Andes.
Botanical specimens were collected in May of 2005. Specimens with flowers or fruits were obtained where possible. Photographs were taken of most plants collected, both the reproductive and vegetative states. Identifications were made in the field and at the Herbarium of the University of Trujillo. The specimens were deposited at the same institution. Common names were obtained from local people helping us collect, who were quite knowledgeable about the flora.
