Greetings and welcome to my web page! In this area, you will find
more detailed descriptions of my research and teaching activities here at
Clark University, where I am an assistant professor in the Department of
Psychology.
Broadly speaking, my research focuses on
expanding our knowledge of mental health processes and interventions to
understudied populations. So the majority of my work focuses on individuals
from lower-income and racial/ethnic minority backgrounds. Clark University
is a great place to do this work for many reasons, including its location in
Worcester, Massachusetts, a northeastern, urban city.
Within this broader area, my work is
currently centered on two primary areas. The first area is examining the role
of race/ethnicity and culture in the
development of depression and its associated symptoms.
The second primary area of my research is
the development and evaluation of effective depression prevention programs for low-income racial/ethnic
minorities. Some of this work in the past has been with children; my current
work involves low-income Latino parents.
I have also done some thinking and writing about
issues of race/ethnicity and psychology, both in psychotherapy and more
generally.
