Key Note Speaker: James P. Garrett, Ph.D.
James P. Garrett, Ph.D., has been involved in struggles for the human rights and self-determination of African peoples and all humanity for more than 30 years. He has been active in the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee in Mississippi, the Black Panther Party, and is a co-founder of the modern Black Student Union Movement and the Black/Ethnic Studies program at San Francisco State College. Garrett has worked as an activist, scholar, and legal consultant for social, education and political projects in disaffected communities in the United States, Africa, the Caribbean, and Europe. Garrett presently works with the post-Katrina Right to Return Movement in New Orleans, Louisiana. Recently, he has worked on projects to develop Global Education Systems to prepare youth for work and struggle in the 21st century. He was featured in the June '06 issues of Diverse magazine for his work focusing on student clubs and organizations on student campuses.
