Biological Sciences

The biology department offers courses that prepare students for work and advanced study in the biological and biomedical sciences and meets the needs of non-science majors who wish to integrate the perspectives of the science of biology into a liberal arts curriculum.  The major in biology is especially suitable for students who intend to go on to professional schools in the health sciences or graduate work in a variety of subfields of the biological sciences.  The department encourages students to identify an area to emphasize within biology and to plan a sequence of courses that will provide depth of exposure to the topics within that area, including a research experience, if possible.  Two general curricula are offered: one in cell and molecular biology and one in ecology and evolution.
