Geography

The geography department’s integrative perspective focuses on understanding the relationships between people and the environment.  Students work on problems such as how to ensure a clean, safe water supply; how to increase the livability of cities; how to assess the causes and consequences of urban sprawl; how to measure land use changes resulting from global climate change; and how to increase food security around the globe. Areas of focus include nature and society; globalization, cities and development; earth system science and geographic information science (GIS).
