Custodial Supervisor

Clark University’s Facilities Management Department seeks to fill the position of Custodial Supervisor to assist the Assistant Director of Campus Services (Assistant Director), with the delivery of services for the department’s custodial services program. In addition, the position acts as a coordinating resource to assigned locations regarding custodial services operations, custodians, building inspections, special projects & events, furniture moving, supply inventory and ordering of supplies, emergency calls, etc.

Duties and Responsibilities

Included in a range of responsibilities, the Custodial Supervisor performs direct supervision of custodial employees in maintaining the cleanliness and sanitation of buildings, offices, classrooms, fitness centers, laboratories, furnishings and equipment as well as building entrances and exterior walkways. The Custodial Supervisor is also responsible for training and evaluating employees in proper custodial procedures for the use of manually operated tools, electrically powered machines, cleaning compounds, solvents and chemicals. Uses both verbal and written instructions provided by the Assistant Director or his/her designee, prepare work schedules, ensure that custodial services meet the needs of the department, University and established guidelines. Assists in hiring process and develop an effective team, provide required performance evaluations on custodial personnel and making recommendations regarding the retention of new employees. Enforce rules and guidelines, through regular inspections, advising employees, issuing verbal and written reprimands and recommending disciplinary actions to immediate supervisors as necessary, as well as other duties as assigned. This position is considered essential personnel and will be expected to report to work during university emergency closings, and may be required to work overtime to respond to weather or facility related incidents, including snow removal operations.


The successful candidate will a High school diploma/GED and a minimum of 3 years supervisory experience working in a custodial and/or building maintenance environment. The ability to work without supervision, communicate with basic language skills verbally and in writing, walk or stand for the majority of the shift, operate a fork lift and lift 10-40lbs frequently. Possess and maintain a Massachusetts valid driver’s license.

Technical qualifications include Demonstrated experience using basic computer features (Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.). Experience using web based computer applications (work order/CMMS systems, payroll/HR systems etc.)

This is a full-time 40 hour/week, 12 month per year non-exempt position with a regular schedule of Sunday through Thursday from 11:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. Excellent benefits including health insurance, tuition benefits, vacation, use of campus fitness center and more.
