Having a website is an important mechanism for painting colorful and rich stories about faculty work that is often difficult to convey in the “official” faculty bio pages available in the University catalog. Lively websites get the word out about your work to granting agencies, students (current and future), and the media.

Using WordPress allows you to manage a web site from any computer with an internet connection. The form-based interface of WordPress makes it easy to post content and create pages very quickly. With WordPress, you won’t need any additional software other than a browser.

If you just want personal website publishing space and want to do all the work yourself, great news, this is free. Just contact us to “Flip The Switch” for you, and we can have you up and running as quick as possible.

With that in mind, we know that creating and maintaining an attractive and lively website can be both challenging and time consuming. We want to make that as easy as possible, so we have also created a service to help you with that. Academic Technology Services offers a “Professional Presence Site Development” service for faculty–a partnership between ATS and you in developing or revamping your web site to represent your research, teaching, and professional presence online, leveraging a software platform we readily support.

For more information about this service or to begin a partnership with us to develop your site, please contact us, or see our Professional Presence Site Development page.

Having a WordPress Site is not a replacement for the “official” bio page that the University creates for each faculty member linked in the Catalog or Departmental website pages, nor would it be a replacement for course websites in Moodle. A personal site is created in addition to those.
