Getting Your Computer on the Campus Network
In June 2007 ITS finished an inventory of University owned network equipment, that connects to the Clark network, in order to bring the campus into compliance with the federal CALEA legislation. We recorded pertinent system information, pre-registered the machines to work on the network, and applied Clark property tags. If you return to campus with a personal piece of equipment or have a University computer without a “Property of Clark University” tag on it, you will need to register personally owned computers and have Clark owned equipment inventoried in order to gain access to the network.
How do I know if my machine is registered?
If you are accessing the Clark network using an Ethernet cable, launch an internet web browser. If you are able to view a website that is not Clark’s (ex. www.google.com), then the computer has most likely been registered.
What do I do if my machine isn’t registered?
If your machine is not registered, you should be redirected to the Clark Campus Network web page when you try to access a website other than Clark’s.
If the computer you are using, was purchased with a Clark PO please contact ITS (firstname.lastname@example.org) so that it can be inventoried and added to the network.
If your computer is a personally purchased computer, log into the Clark Campus Network web page with your Clark credentials and follow the instructions for registering your machine on the Clark Network. The process if fairly simple and quick; it will check your system for approved operating systems (Mac OS 10.3.9 & 10.4.9+, Windows 2000, XP, or Vista (support details on ITS and Windows Vista), & Linux) with the appropriate updates/security patches applied and for approved anti-virus software (McAfee, Symantec, AVG, & Windows OneCare) that have current virus definitions. All personally owned computers will need to go through this process approximately every six months.
In preparation for bringing your machine on campus, please be sure to install the latest system updates (Windows Updates, Apple Software Updates, etc...) as well as make sure that your anti-virus definitions are less than a week old prior to coming to campus.
