ITS does not currently support Microsoft Vista, Mac OS 10.5, and/or Office 2007/2008. ITS will continue to research these products, but will be unable to provide end user support from the Help Desk. Please continue to use Microsoft Windows XP, Mac OS 10.4 & Office 2003/2004 wherever possible.
Currently, ITS recommends that faculty, staff and students request the following specifications when buying new personal computers:
When ordering from the Dell and HP stores ITS recommends purchasing from the "Business Line" computers; these include the Latitude & Compaq laptop lines and the Optiplex and Compaq desktop lines.
- Processor - dual core 2.4 GHz
- RAM - 2 Gigabytes
- Hard Drive - 80 Gigabytes
- Optical Drive - DVD+/-RW drive
- Graphics Card - any with DVI support
- Wireless (for laptops) - 802.11abg
- Monitor - 19" LCD with DVI support
- Operating System - Windows XP Professional, Service Pack 2 or Mac OS 10.4.11
- Warranty - 3 year warranty
Minimum Specifications
The current minimum computer specifications to ensure the ability to run the basic software most end users operate is:
- Processor - 2 GHz
- RAM - 1 GB
- Hard Drive - 60 GB
- Optical Drive - CD-RW
- Wireless (for laptops) - 802.11b
- Monitor - 17" LCD
- Operating System -Windows XP Home, Service Pack 2 or Mac OS 10.4.9
