Publications
University Communications has many resources to help faculty and staff who are producing newsletters, brochures and other Clark publications. Here are a few tips and resources for creating quality publications.
The University logo
The University logo serves an important purpose. This visual cue immediately tells the reader that a letter, brochure, booklet or other publication is from Clark. This is particularly important for materials sent to prospective students, who receive mountains of mail from colleges and universities. The logo helps prospective students recognize Clark University instantly. There are several versions of the logo that can be used depending on application and size.

At the above size the tagline appears too small to decipher. It is suggested that you use the logo below, with a stacked tagline, that is more legible at smaller sizes:

A logo with no tagline should be used when the logo is so small that the tagline is not readable.
The Shield
Another piece of the logo that can be used is just the "shield":

This logo fits well on small square items, such as a CD case or a T-shirt pocket.
Colors: The logo can be reproduced in all black, all white, or black and red.The logo should not be reproduced in all red or any other color. Clark's official red color is PMS 485; #CC0033 is the official red used on the Web site.
Graphic standards
The University's Graphic Standards Manual helps ensure that the logo is used consistently campuswide. The manual includes guidelines for a variety of uses, such as how to use the logo on T-shirts.
It's on the Web: Clark's graphic standards manual is on line. If you need a logo for a publication, e-mail Kay Hartnett.
Clark's style guide
Consistency helps create high-quality publications that tell prospective students, donors, alumni and friends that Clark is an institution of excellence. The best way to achieve consistency when writing text for a publication is to use a style guide. Clark uses the Associated Press Style Guide and Merriam-Webster Dictionary, with some adaptations for Clark-specific usage. Clark's official style guide is now online.
Academic catalog
The academic catalog is edited by Tammy Griffin-Kumpey. This catalog is a massive editing project. It is also the University's official contract with our students. For these reasons, it is imperative that all departments and offices submit accurate information and make every effort to meet the deadlines.
Faculty Photos
University Communications keeps a catalog of faculty photos for publicity purposes. These photos are used in University publications, faculty books and publications, and newspapers and magazines. Faculty who don't have a photo on file in University Communications or who believe their photo is out of date should contact Christine Brown at x7440 to arrange to have a new photo taken.
