Clark speaker to discuss 'Party Wars: Polarized Politics'

Worcester, Mass. - Clark University's Government and International Relations Department will present the 2006 Harrington Public Affairs Lecture, "Party Wars: Polarized Politics and Policy Making in the Bush Administration," by Professor Barbara Sinclair, at 7 p.m., Monday, Oct. 16, in Cohen-Lasry House, 11 Hawthorne St.

Sinclair will discuss the impact of partisan polarization on House and Senate lawmaking procedures andPresident Bush's legislative leadership strategies and how well they have   worked. She will also consider what changes might follow the Mid-Term Elections.

Sinclair is the Marvin Hoffenberg Professor of American Politics at the University of California, Los Angeles. Her books include "Party Wars: Polarization and the Politics of the Policy Process" (University of Oklahoma Press, 1996) and "Unorthodox Lawmaking: New Legislative Processes in the U.S. Congress" (Congressional Quarterly Press, 2000). She was an American Political Science Association Congressional Fellow in the office of the House Majority Leader in 1978-79 and spent 1987-88 as an observer in the office of the Speaker of the House.
