Export Controls involve not just transporting tangible items such as laptops, research equipment, and data outside the United States, but sharing information in conversation, or sending e-mails to foreign nationals as well. In the post-9/11 era, university-based researchers need to anticipate a growing set of federal regulations, and compliance areas that will effect the flow of materials and information to other countries.
