Bath, England: ASE

Program:Advanced Studies in England (ASE)
Duration: Fall or Spring, Summer

Program Overview

Established in 1987, the Advanced Studies in England (ASE) aims to provide a study abroad experience of the very highest quality to undergraduates from a range of U.S. colleges and universities. At the heart of the ASE experience is an academic and cultural emphasis: challenging, rigorous courses are complemented by a rich array of internship and school placement opportunities, and a social program designed to develop students' cultural and inter-cultural awareness.

Teaching takes place in small seminar groups, and tutorial-style classes. Courses are taught by highly qualified British faculty; many from Oxford University, and the program enjoys ongoing academic ties with University College, Oxford. The study center is situated at the heart of the beautiful, 18th—century city of Bath, a World Heritage City located 90 minutes west of London.

Participating students receive the equivalent of four Clark units per semester (16 U.S. credits), provided all coursework is completed, all required exams are taken, and final papers are submitted. All courses receive letter grades, which show on the Clark transcript and are factored into the overall GPA. Please check with the Study Abroad Office to ensure transferability of credit. You will need to check with the Faculty Advisor in your major to see if major credit for coursework will be approved.

ASE students live in attractive properties in the historic areas of the city center, within walking distance of the Roman Baths, the Abbey, galleries, museums, and an array of restaurants, cafés and pubs.
