Program Overview

The SOAS University of London is a top-ranked university in the United Kingdom.  The program offers a semester long or full-year course of study based in the heart of London. The international student body of approximately 4600 students come from over 130 countries. At the "School for Oriental and African Studies," students will grapple with issues of democracy, development, law, social change and more.  SOAS is a global academic base with a focus on Africa, Asia an dthe Middle East, making them an indeispensable resource in today's world. The School has 24 departments offering over 400 course modules in three faculties:


  1. Arts & Humanities
  2. Law & Social Science
  3. Languages & Culture


Participating students receive the equivalent of four Clark units per semester (16 credits), provided all coursework is completed, all required exams are taken, and final papers are submitted. All courses receive letter grades, which show on the Clark transcript and are factored into the overall GPA. Please check with the Study Abroad Office to ensure transferability of credit. You will need to check with your Faculty Advisor (in your major) to see if major credit for coursework will be approved.

Housing & Meals

SOAS students live in the heart of London and generally reside in Dinwiddy House, a dormitory located next to the SOAS Vernon Square campus and a 15-minute walk from the main campus at Russell Square. From the main campus it is only a five-minute walk to the British Museum. Several single en-suite rooms are located around common kitchen and dining areas. In line with UK policy, there is a no smoking policy throughout the campus residence halls. More complete housing information is available at their Accommodations webpage.


All applicants must fulfill Clark University's eligibility requirements and the SOAS study abroad program eligiblity requirements. Applications may be rejected for any number of reasons by the overseas program.

The Fine Print
If you are a financial aid recipient, you should continue to receive financial aid. However, be sure to check with the Office of Financial Assistance to see if there will be any changes in your financial aid package. You will not be able to receive Work-Study money while you are abroad. International Scholarships are granted to enrich the Clark campus with international students and cannot be applied to off-campus programs. You will receive an invoice from Clark's Student Accounts Department, indicating that the tuition payment will be due by mid-July for fall semester and mid-December for spring semester. Failure to satisfy your financial obligation to Clark University by the due date may result in withdrawal from the program. Clark University is not responsible for any independent travel that is not an official part of the Clark program and Clark does not assist in personal travel arrangements
