Program: University of Sussex Study Abroad Program
Duration: Fall, Spring, Full Year

Program Overview

The University of Sussex has a reputation for innovation and inspiration, and attracts leading thinkers and researchers. This program is suited for academically independent students interested in social sciences, pure sciences, humanities, and arts (excluding studio art). The University of Sussex, located less than an hour south-east of London, is located in Falmer, on the outskirst of Brighton. The University has approximately 13,000 students, with its campus offering 200 acres of park land. Founded in 1961, Sussex is one of Britain’s newer universities.

Academics

Teaching in the arts and social sciences takes place primarily in small tutorial groups or larger seminar groups. A wide variety of lectures is also provided as support for the tutorials and seminars. The smaller group sessions meet for about an hour and a half each week. Students are to prepare for the meeting by reading background material and specific options from the course list to assist in leading discussion.

See Academic Requirements for course transfer information.

Housing & Meals

Most of the housing is located on or near campus and consists of single study-bedrooms. Meals are not provided by the program. Six to twelve students share a kitchen, and students generally select to cook their own meals. The campus also has some restaurant, pub, and snack shop options. Off-campus housing in Brighton is also an option.
