Transforming 'Swords' into 'Plowshares': Images and Stories by Dorothy D. Ciarlo, Ph.D.

This presentation explores, by offering an example, the idea that visualizing peace, as urged by sociologist Elise Boulding, is a needed practice for peace-builders. Stories of people and their projects, with accompanying images, are given as elements of the authorÕs particular vision. Current realities of dangerous over-militarization, structural violence, and violence to the environment form the background, with the focus being on the transformation of these realities. The presentation is meant to inspire other peace-workers to mentally formulate and visually construct their own visions of reality-based peace.
