All About Your Academic Program
Congratulations! You have accepted our invitation to join Clark University. If you are like many of our new students, you have questions about getting started on your academic studies (e.g. selecting classes, looking at majors). These pages will answer those questions and help you make the right academic decisions for your bright future.

What other tests are offered?
Clark offers music theory and economics placement tests during orientation. Review the summer requirements checklist on the My New Student Page (login required) to indicate if you would like to take either or both of these tests during Orientation if you are:
A student who has taken economics in high school who would like to try to skip the elementary economics course. You will be taking the economics placement test.
A music major and/or student who wants to take instrumental or vocal instruction for credit. You will be taking the music theory placement test.

Can you tell me more about foreign language placement?
There is no foreign language requirement or placement test at Clark. However there is a Language and Culture Perspective requirement. The most common way to fulfill this requirement is with a course or course-sequence of your choice in foreign language study. Many students choose to continue in a language in which they have skills and knowledge. Others choose to begin a new language or take a course that fulfills the Language and Culture Perspective requirement but isn't a foreign language.

If you have studied a foreign language previously and plan to continue at Clark, your placement will be based on the number of years of language you have taken in high school, according to the following rule:
One year of high-school language = placement in Language 101
Two years = placement in Language 103
Three or four years = Language 105
