Asmat use of drums, like that of the Kwakiutl and Ijebu, centers around ceremonial life. Drums were used to honor those lost to head hunting. They were also used in funeral rites and initiation. As in the other societies discussed, drums were accompanied by dramatic play, costumes, song, masks, dance, etc. (Corbin 213-217).
