Effectively responding to customer requirements, given increased global competition and rapidly changing consumer demands, is even more critical for companies remain competitive and thrive. It is envisioned that new enterprise models such as virtual corporations and network organizations are a solution for achieving high degrees of flexibility and responsiveness, “agility”, in meeting customer demands in a timely and efficient manner. A key issue faced in designing these new organizational forms is partner selection and agile enterprise formation since it involves a complex process of identifying and selecting a set of capable and compatible partners based on a variety of strategic, tactical, and operational factors. While the conceptual work in the area of designing new organizational forms is rich, few formal decision models have been proposed for effective partner selection. To this end, this paper proposes a framework and a model for agile enterprise partner selection.
