Making A National Business Case for Agility

Joseph Sarkis and Don Liles

Conference Proceedings of the 4th Annual Agility Conference /H3>

Agility and Agile Manufacturing are concepts that were initiated in an effort to compete internationally against organizations that had the support of their nation’s industrial policies. Industry, government and academia formed a partnership under the umbrella of agility. To aid in maintaining and improving the direction of Agility for the benefit of domestic economic and other requirements, a business case should be made on a national level. Taking into consideration the strategies and requirements set forth for global industrial competitiveness based on academic studies and government policies, a justification framework is presented. The business case framework will link some of the strategic directions, metrics and agility program components. The current presentation is only a framework which will need to be implemented and populated with the appropriate parameters and data for effective analysis. Examples of tools and reference sources are provided, along with an illustrative example.
