There are over 2,500 known species of mosquito worldwide, and their morphology differs greatly from species to species. The photographs shown here were taken of Ochlerotatus triseriatus, a container breeding mosquito native to North America. This is one of the species we study here in the lab, and a species you might find laying eggs in your traps if you participate in the Labor Day Mosquito Count.  These pictures lead to other pictures with different magnification.  Move your mouse over different parts of each picture, and click.
