Clark students in Biology 224, Ecology of Disease Vectors, have created the following resources for teaching about mosquitoes. They have also been picking and counting eggs from hundreds of trap liners. But don't feel too sorry for them; they got to go to Bermuda for a field trip.

The Who, What,
Where, Why, and How of Mosquitoes- This
PowerPoint describes the anatomy and life cycle of
mosquitoes, and also includes a picture of
potential domestic breeding sites.
Mosquitoes up close- A collection
of photographs depicting the anatomy of
Ochlerotatus triseriatus; includes the
function of each body part and fun facts
Breeding Sites- This interactive
picture displays the potential breeding sites in a
typical home.
Treeholes that I have known- This
collection of pictures displays the natural habitat
of the mosquitoes studies by the Labor Day Mosquito
Count, tree holes!
Mosquitoes: A Vector- This
PowerPoint describes the different types of
vectors, including those besides mosquitoes. It
also touches upon diseases carried by mosquitoes,
and places mosquitoes can breed.
Vector borne disease- Describes some of
the most common diseases that are transmitted by
mosquitoes, and includes distributions, mortality
rates, and species that carry it.
Labor Day Mosquito Count - This PowerPoint
explains what the Labor Day Mosquito Count is, and
briefly introduces some of the most important
aspects of mosquitoes.
Choosing a Trap Site- These images
will help participants choose the ideal location
for their trap, and also discuss why some sites are
better then others.
How To Identify Mosquito Eggs-
Describes how researchers collect, count, and
identify mosquito eggs.
Trap Construction-This hand out
describes how to assemble traps, with pictures.
Puzzles and Games. These crossword puzzles
and word searches can supplement any lesson to
reinforce concepts about mosquitoes.
