About Clark

Jonas Clark Hall

Clark has a prestigious faculty known for scholarly excellence and for a commitment to teaching, student mentoring and engagement in the life of the university. Currently we have over 180 full-time faculty, including tenure-line faculty and professors of practice, balanced across the arts and humanities, the social sciences, and the sciences. The faculty are located within seventeen departments and schools, including the Graduate School of Management, the Hiatt School of Psychology, the Graduate School of Geography and the Carlson School of Chemistry. While tenure lines are located within schools and departments, many faculty have affiliate appointments in other departments and there is a strong interdisciplinary culture at Clark University.

Clark is a faculty-centered institution with a strong tradition of shared faculty governance. Each month the faculty as a whole meet in a campus-wide faculty assembly that both serves as a legislative body on matters of academic policy and a forum for discussing matters of significance for the faculty and the university. A variety of faculty committees and committees of shared responsibility with the administration ensure productive faculty engagement in strategic planning for the university. The faculty and the administration currently have a strong and very effective working relationship that is built around a shared commitment to our core academic mission, and a culture of openness, accessibility and transparency in the workings of the university. The university maintains a formal academic and financial plan that is developed jointly with the faculty and approved by the all campus faculty assembly.
