Meeting the Challenge of Urban Education

For more than twenty years Clark University's work in education has been guided by a core mission to understand and address the complexities and possibilities of urban education in collaboration with school partners.

Clark's Adam Institute for Urban Teaching and School Practice and Hiatt Center for Urban Education are complementary partners in this effort. The Adam Institute focuses on the development of strong models of urban teacher preparation, teaching practice, and college-going learning cultures through innovative neighborhood-based work in collaboration with partner schools. The Hiatt Center works hand in hand, aiming to shed light on powerful teaching and learning through innovative collaborative research. Both are motivated by a commitment to ensure that education in urban settings is equitable and transformative in its personal and social impact.
