Program Notes
Dramatic and bittersweet, my Archipelago of Regrets is a musical exploration of the emotional landscape of disenchantment. The work is a variation set with each permutation of the opening theme meant to represent a possible facet of this experience: disappointment and dissatisfaction, frustration and defiance, repentance and remorse. Alternately animated and contemplative, the music of these emotional states gather a kind of momentum that moves the composition forward toward more and more musically abstract statements of the initial theme before a last minute change of heart leads to a more resolved and contented final assertion.
