Clark University’s Facilities Management seeks to fill the position of Custodian/Utilities to assist the Supervisor on the shift performing general custodial work in connection with cleaning and maintaining all buildings and grounds; assisting in creating a safe, clean and pleasant environment for students and employees to live and work; providing responsive and high quality customer service, while maintaining good judgement preforming all assigned duties; demonstrating knowledge of materials, equipment and methods commonly used in housekeeping operations and a working knowledge of the types, properties, quality and use of cleaning supplies and equipment. This position requires flexibility in work routines.

Reporting to the Supervisor on the shift, specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to: cleaning campus property such as; classrooms, offices, restrooms, labs, etc. Cleaning walls, all floors, windows, furniture, appliances, etc. Employing all of the following cleaning methods; washing, waxing, buffing, sweeping, polishing, dusting and vacuuming. Removing trash; empty and cleans waste barrels, garbage cans and other waste receptacles.

Replacing bathroom paper goods, light bulbs, or any required renewable products. Washing interior and exterior windows and other indoor and outdoor surfaces. Caring for all types of cleaning equipment such as; electric sweepers, scrubbers, burnishing machines, etc. Keeping assigned campus areas including steps and walks clear of trash, sand, and debris. Shoveling snow and applying ice treatment adjacent to building walks and entrances, as well as operate a snow blower and work with the grounds crew to provide snow removal around campus. In times of snow, you may be required to stay on overtime. Providing visual checks for repairs, or utility malfunctions and notifying and reporting to the supervisor or maintenance coordinator (dispatcher) of your findings. Providing general security checks of buildings and grounds during cleaning tours, checking for unlocked doors, windows, etc. Providing security by locking and unlocking rooms or buildings as directed or assigned by your supervisor. Meeting all appropriate work standards; punctual arrival and departure to and from work, proper accounting for your time reports and proper notification of time absent from work. Providing all floor maintenance by shampooing, scrubbing, stripping, washing, waxing, polishing to create a protective final finish. Moving furniture; be familiar and able to use moving tools such as dollies and 2-wheel hand trucks or other equipment necessary for moving furniture. Providing room setups for meetings and functions with tables, chairs or other required items. Assisting with the setups of; tents, grills, etc. Loading and unloading trucks. Other duties as assigned.

The successful candidate will have 3 years of professional experience cleaning and a Massachusetts driver’s license. The ability to clean high areas on a lift (after training). Proficiency to operate a fork truck (hoisting license needed) and all types of cleaning equipment within the job requirement. Skill to operate power tools for small jobs within the job requirement. Ability to work alone without supervision. The ability to communicate with basic language skills. Ability to make general repairs of a simple nature. Understanding and work with waste recycling processes. Have the ability to lift 100+ pounds and withstand the strain of performing manual tasks. Participate and meet all standards of required training programs. Capability to represent as a positive member of the Clark Community.

This is a full-time 40 hour/week, 12 month per year non-exempt position with an anticipated hourly rate between $ 12.93 and $13.95 and a regular schedule of Monday through Friday from 7:00a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Excellent benefits including health insurance, tuition benefits, vacation, use of campus fitness center and more.
