Eduroam Policy

About our EDUROAM Policy

Currently the legal, policy, and technical infrastructure for the national eduroam service is still being developed. Clark University has chosen to participate in this development and to be an early adopter of eduroam as a service to our students, faculty and staff and aspects of this service and policy may change over time.

What is the purpose of this policy?

  1. It allows members of Clark University to access the wireless networks of visited Universities that participate in eduroam using their Clark account credentials;
  2. It provides guests from other universities participating in eduroam the ability to join the wireless eduroam network on the Clark campus, using their home institution's credentials.


  • Access to the Clark campus instance of eduroam is a privilege and not a right. It may be revoked at anytime at the discretion of Clark ITS.
  • Access to the eduroam SSID will be granted to any user of an academic institution participating in the eduroam consortium. For a list of participating institutions, visit eduroam-International
  • While members of the campus community (faculty, staff, and students) can access the eduroam SSID on campus, there are some Clark-specific resources that are not available on the eduroam network, and campus users are encouraged to use ClarkWiFi and/or the wired Clark network while on campus.

Rights and Responsibilities

  • Clark campus faculty, staff, and students are obligated to adhere to the Appropriate Use Policy of both the Clark campus and that of the visited institution. Users are obligated to familiarize themselves with the equivalent AUP of any institution they visit.
  • Visitors to the Clark campus are obligated to adhere to the Appropriate Use Policy of both the Clark campus and that of their home institution.
  • Users are obligated to authenticate to the eduroam service using the credentials (network ID and password) provided by their home institution that uniquely identifies them. Using incorrect, borrowed, stolen, or other non-identifying credentials will result in a loss of eduroam access and be reported to the user's home institution.


  • While the University respects the privacy of electronic communications and makes every attempt to keep electronic information secure, privacy is not guaranteed.
  • Users should be aware that use of the eduroam service, like all network services, is logged. Logs will be retained in accordance with eduroam and local policy requirements. Log information will be used in support of the investigation of security-related incidents and in trouble shooting networking problems. In accordance with eduroam policy, this information may be shared with other eduroam participating organizations in support of security-related investigations.


  • Support for Clark Faculty, Staff, and Students in other locations
    Clark campus faculty, staff, and students should not rely on the visited institution for support in trouble shooting network access with eduroam. Visited institutions are not obligated nor prepared to support visitors accessing eduroam. Clark campus technical support (the Clark ITS Help Desk) will coordinate with the visited institution's technical staff, if necessary to resolve connectivity or other networking problems.
  • Support for Visitors to the Clark Campus
    Please rely on your home institution's technical support for eduroam-related connectivity problems. They will coordinate with our technical staff, if necessary, to resolve connectivity or other networking problems.

Incident Management

Incident management refers to how the campus will respond when computers are believed to be compromised by malware, when hackers are identified on the network, or when a user is believed to be engaged in malicious activity.

  • In general, systems accessing the eduroam service will be treated according to the standard operating procedure of the Clark campus for known or suspect compromised systems.
  • Computers connected to the eduroam SSID that are believed to be compromised will be immediately removed from the network and network access will not be restored until the user or the user's home institution notifies Clark ITS that the system has been remediated.
  • Users that attempt to circumvent this policy will have their access to the eduroam network revoked and their home institution notified.
  • Users whose network credentials are likely to have been compromised due to a system infection will have their access revoked and their home institution notified.
  • On request from a user's home institution, access logs for an impacted user may be shared with that institution for the purpose of incident investigation or connectivity troubleshooting.
