College Swimming 01/27/2016
Five hundred and sixty-one swimming and diving teams representing 359 colleges and universities have been named College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-America Teams. The awards are in recognition of teams that achieved a grade point average of 3.0 or higher during the 2015 Fall Semester. That is up 40 teams from the previous Fall Semester. Clark Universitys womens swimming team and its coach Paul Phillips are listed.

Wendy Grolnick will speak on Helping Children Succeed: Facilitating Childrens Intrinsic Motivation in a Pressured World from 6:45 to 8:45 p.m. Jan. 27 at Congregation Beth Elohim, 133 Prospect St., Acton. Grolnick is professor of psychology in the Frances L. Hiatt School of Psychology at Clark University in Worcester. She has been conducting research on the roles that parents play in childrens motivation and accomplishments for more than 25 years. Her work focuses on how parents can encourage childrens achievement while also supporting their experience of autonomy and agency.

Born and raised in the Bronx, Steve Heimoff [69] earned a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy in the late 1970s from Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts. Subsequently moving to the West Coast, he received his masters in educational technology from San Francisco State University. After three years of working in the corporate world, Heimoff realized he desired something more creative and fulfilling. Taking a major leap of faith, and combining two of his passions, he set out to become a wine writer.

Instead of coming together to share in collective grief, we over-ridded two tragedies that produced hundreds of dead and injured bodies with our social stratifications based on fear and hate. The social calamity is that those who suffered in Paris and San Bernardino did not receive the full volume of our emotions; we took the tragedies and created a second group of victims: ourselves.
