Diploma degree in Biology, 1995. Naturwissenschaftliche Fakultät III –Universität Regensburg. Diploma Thesis: Die Phellinus igniarius-Gruppe: Charakterisierung durch RFLP-Analysen an enzymatisch amplifizierten rDNA-Abschnitten. Advisor: Dr. Michael Fischer.

Doctorate of Biology, 2000. Naturwissenschaftliche Fakultät III –Universität Regensburg. PhD Dissertation, supported by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG): Zur molekularen Systematik der Boletales: Boletineae und Sclerodermatineae subordo nov. Advisor: Dr. Andreas Bresinsky.

Present position

Research Fellow (January 2000–present)
Biology Department, Clark University, Worcester, Massachusetts.

Research interests

Molecular systematics and evolution of mushroom-forming fungi and their global biodiversity.

Professional service

I have reviewed manuscripts for Mycologia, Mycological Research, Fungal Diversity, BMC Plant Biology, Persoonia, Mycotaxon, the New Phytologist, the American Journal of Botany, Molecular Ecology, Mycological Progress, Molecular Phylogenetics and Evolution, and Botany (formerly the Canadian Journal of Botany). Other community services include core contributions to Agaricales and Boletales and branch coordination of Boletales in the Tree of Life project (ToL).
In addition, I have served as an ad hoc reviewer for the National Science Foundation (NSF) Systematic Biology Program (2005-present) and the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) Systematic Botany and Evolution Program (2007-present).

Editorial Services

I am currently serving as an Associate Editor for:
Mycosphere 2010 -
Mycologia 2009 -
Mycology 2009 -
Fungal Diversity 2008 -
Mycosystema 2008

Grant Review Panels 2005: National Science Foundation Systematic Biology DDIG.
